Mason faculty are part of a new project that aims to yield policy recommendations that limit the negative impact – namely in higher energy prices – on low socioeconomic communities.

Missy Cummings, one of the country’s first female fighter pilots and the director of Mason’s autonomy and robotics center, calls herself a tech futurist, charged with making tech work and helping it get better. She isn’t shy about calling out bad tech either, including the vision systems in self-driving cars and Tesla’s Autopilot.

George Mason University’s online degree offerings are some of the best in the nation, with five programs in education and engineering ranked in the top 20 among public universities, according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings released Jan. 24.

A team of six from George Mason earned an award for teamwork and collaboration at the 2022 Maritime RobotX competition in Australia after working with competitors from two other universities.

Mason will receive $1 million in federal funding to support the creation a first-of-its-kind Mason Center for Excellence in Government Cybersecurity Risk Management and Resilience, and nearly $1 million for the Saving Lives and Decreasing Health Disparities project

On Jan. 9, over 400 students from five counties and 22 high schools came together at Mason for CyberSlam 2023, to get hands-on learning about opportunities in cybersecurity. The huge gathering was deemed a state affair, as interest in CyberSlam increased significantly from last year.

The EfID-GMU team will travel to San Pablo de Amali in Ecuador this year, to work on restoring water accessibility for the community.

Drawn by Mason’s multidisciplinary research and teaching, Missy Cummings will create a new program in the design and deployment of Artificial Intelligence.

Vo will complete a three-week long micro-internship at a local tech company as part of Break Through Tech Mason's 2023 Sprinternship program. "As a third-year student, I want to gain as much experience in technology as possible before graduating and entering the workforce," she says.
