Academy of Excellence

Academy of Engineering and Computing Excellence

Induction into the Academy of Engineering & Computing Excellence is reserved for individuals who have made considerable contributions to the field of engineering or computing throughout their careers. Initiates hold a degree within the College of Engineering and Computing and/or have a significant connection to the college and George Mason University. Honorees are inducted at an annual ceremony hosted by CEC Advancement and Alumni Relations. 

CEC recognizes alumni in the following categories

Distinguished Alumni Member

This category honors alumni who have brought distinction to the College of Engineering and Computing and George Mason University. The Distinguished Alumni title is bestowed annually to an individual whose professional or personal achievements, outstanding service to the community, involvement in the life of the university, and/or recognition with awards and honors have brought pride to our college. 

Honorary Member

This award recognizes a non-alumnus who has made exceptional contributions to academic excellence, participation in student life, and leadership within the university and/or the profession. Their efforts in service to the university and community, special honors, and recognition are key criteria for this nomination. 

Emerging Leader Member

This category recognizes alumni who have made significant contributions to their profession and/or community within 10 years of graduating from George Mason. These individuals are identified as future leaders with the potential for continued success, service, and leadership in their careers and communities. 

Distinguished Industry Partner

This honor recognizes an organization that has made exceptional contributions in philanthropy, service, and time commitment to George Mason University College of Engineering and Computing. Their partnership has been instrumental in the advancement of our college’s mission and goals. 

Criteria for Nomination

Any individual may be nominated. All information submitted through the nomination from will be reviewed by a selection committee made up of CEC Staff, Alumni, and Academy Members. The committee will take the following criteria into consideration:

  • Made significant contributions in the engineering or computing field.
  • Directed or managed an organization that has achieved notable recognition in design, construction, production, or service delivery in the field of engineering and/or computing.
  • Delivered outstanding service to their community, their profession, and/or the public.
