Scholarships Can Make It Happen
The College of Engineering and Computing offers several scholarships for both graduate and undergraduate students. We also offer research assistantships and teaching assistantships, available within specific departments of the school.
Mason's Office of Financial Aid handles all applications for undergraduate scholarships awarded by the College of Engineering and Computing.

CEC Scholarships
Bersoff Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Recipient will be ranked in the upper five percent (5%) of the College of Engineering and Computing applicant pool; enter Mason with approximately a full semester of college credits; a National Merit Scholar or demonstrated equivalent intellectual maturity, initiative, and independence as conveyed in a letter of reference from former teachers of technical courses; demonstrate strong leadership skills and good citizenship; participated in and won technical competitions at the State and National levels, and demonstrated ability to think out-of-the-box.
Charles C. Joyce Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Students may be full-time or part-time and may be in-state or out-of-state. Recipients will qualify on the basis of academic merit.
The Dr. Lawrence Cranberg Endowed Scholarship in Science and Engineering
Criteria: The updated purpose of the Fund will be to provide scholarship support for students in the College of Engineering and Computing. Recipients may be either in or out-of-state students. Selected by a committee appointed by the Dean. The scholarship is renewable, subject to the availability of funds at the time of renewal.
Durant Family Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: To provide scholarship support for undergraduate students or students in the accelerated master's program enrolled in the College of Engineering and Computing who are majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering. Scholarship recipients must be full-time, in-state students who will qualify on the basis of financial need and must be under-represented in the program.
The Edward Ciulis and Ethel J. Ciulis Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: The recipient will be an undergraduate student at the College of Engineering and Computing who has achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 in high school, maintained a GPA of 2.5 at VSE, has a demonstrated financial need, and is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
FreBon International Corporation Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student in the College of Engineering and Computing, majoring in technology. Applicant must be in-state, have a minimum high school GPA of 3.3 with four years of math, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 while attending George Mason University.
Harbitter Family Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant will qualify based on academic merit and financial need, with a strong emphasis on need. The applicant must be a full-time student, a U.S. citizen, or a permanent resident with a preference given to students who are in-state.
H. Randall and Anna W. Edwards Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant will qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student as well as in-state or out-of-state.
James D. Palmer, PhD Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must be enrolled in the College of Engineering and Computing as an undergraduate or graduate student.
Jean Wu Distinguished Undergraduate Endowed Scholarship

John L. Howard Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant will qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need and must maintain a 3.0 GPA. The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student and may be an in-state or out-of-state student.
Kelsie R. Troutman Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Recipients will qualify on the basis of financial need, must be full-time undergraduates, and may be either in-state, out-of-state, or international students.
Lloyd J. Griffiths Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate student within the College of Engineering and Computing. The applicant may be either in-state or out-of-state.
Northern Virginia Technology Council - Daniel R. Bannister Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must be a junior or senior in the College of Engineering and Computing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and will qualify on the basis of need and merit.
SRA Jeffrey B. Westerhoff Endowed Scholars Program
Criteria: The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the College of Engineering and Computing. Recipients will qualify on the basis of academic merit and may be either in-state or out-of-state students.
Sushil Jajodia Distinguished Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Dr. Jajodia seeks to assist the CEC in offering financially competitive four-year scholarships to attract academically gifted high school students to its programs. The scholarship seeks to provide opportunities for students to excel absent the burden of debt after graduation. If no applicants meet these criteria, the scholarship committee may use their discretion in finding student(s) whose accomplishments meet most of the qualifications of this scholarship.
Trudi A. McKimens Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: The recipient will be an undergraduate and graduate student pursuing a degree in the College of Engineering and Computing.
The College of Engineering and Computing Alumni Development Board Scholarship
Criteria: The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support for undergraduates in the College of Engineering and Computing. Recipients will qualify on the basis of academic merit and must be full-time students, but may be either in-state or out-of-state.
WGL Engineering Scholarship
Criteria: The applicant would be a transfer student wishing to complete their bachelor of science in Engineering degree after having completed an Associate of Science in Engineering degree at Northern Virginia Community College. Preference will be given to students from under-represented populations. Recipients may be full-time or part-time and may be in-state or out-of-state. Additionally, applicants will qualify based on academic merit and financial need.
Department-Specific Scholarships
Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering
Civil Infrastructure Engineering Institute Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: The recipient will be chosen based on scholarly engineering potential, including past scholastic accomplishments, community service, and other factors that represent candidates as well-rounded students. Financial needs will be considered but will not necessarily be the major factor in choosing recipients. The minimum GPA eligibility is 2.7.
Mark H. Houck Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicants will qualify on the basis of academic merit and will be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean of CEC in coordination with student financial aid.
Michael S. Bronzini CEIE Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must be an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in the Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering. The applicant will qualify based on merit and financial need and will be either a full-time or part-time student and may be in-state or out-of-state.
Patton Harris Rust and Associates Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Students must be residents of Virginia, Washington, DC or Montgomery, Prince George's, Charles, Frederick, Anne Arundel, or Howard Counties in Maryland. The applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA and be an undergraduate in the Urban Systems Engineering Program at George Mason University.
Computer Science
The Washington Apple Pi Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: The applicant must be a student pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science at the College of Engineering and Computing. Recipients will qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Students may be in-state or out-of-state or international and students may be part-time or full-time.
Deltek Endowed Scholars
Criteria: To support students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in software engineering and is not limited to scholarships. To include scholarships, networking, and community building assistance through attendance at conferences; sponsorship of capstone programs, and access to Mason's Student Success Center. Up to $5,000 may be expended for a capstone sponsorship per academic year.
Software Engineering Scholarship Fund
Criteria: The recipient will be a student studying software engineering.
Information Sciences and Technology
Steven M. Schorling, Ph.D. Endowed Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must be a full-time freshman, sophomore, or junior in Information Technology and will qualify based on academic merit and contribution to the department or school. The applicant must maintain a 3.0 GPA and is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
Ed Hetsko & Laurie McQuillan/ISSA-NOVA Scholarship Endowment
Criteria: The applicant must be a full-time graduate student and preference will be given to a student with an interest in information assurance. Preference will be given to an in-state student. Additionally, the recipient must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Systems Engineering and Operations Research
Armed Forces Communication Electronics Association (AFCEA) Scholarship
Criteria: The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for undergraduate students studying in the field of electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, scholastic achievement/capability, and be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Society of Satellite Professionals International Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter Scholarship
Criteria: Applicant must have completed or be enrolled in courses focused on satellite, aerospace, or allied technologies. The recipient may be a full-time or part-time student and may be an in-state or out-of-state student. The recipient will qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Mechanical Engineering
Oscar Barton, Jr., PhD, PE Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship supports undergraduate students who are pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and who are from a group underrepresented in the student population. Recipients may be full-time or part-time, may be in-state or out-of-state students, will qualify based on financial need, and will be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean of the Volgenau School of Engineering in coordination with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Bioengineering
Katona Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Bioengineering
Criteria: Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Bioengineering, will qualify based on academic merit and financial need, and must maintain a 3.0 GPA. The applicant may be either in-state or out-of-state, and non-U.S. citizens are eligible.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
E. Bernard White, PhD Memorial Fund Scholarship
Criteria: The purpose of the fund is to provide two $1,000 scholarships per academic year for students majoring in engineering. Preference will be given to one male and one female African American student. Recipients must be undergraduates, may be either full or part-time, and may be either in or out-of-state students. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to maintain the scholarship. Recipients will qualify on academic merit, financial need, or a combination of both.

The Mason Scholarship Application includes both merit-based and financial need-based internal scholarships. Consideration for need-based scholarships requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 1 (March 1 for transfer students). Undocumented and DACA students may file the VASA instead of the FAFSA, and its priority deadline is February 1.
