This minor gives students the fundamentals of systems engineering. Participants learn how to deal with the system life cycle and use scientific methods for analyzing the operations of a system or organization. The courses help students in technical fields prepare for the information technology work now common in public and private industry.

Students learn to apply IT to support business processes. The minor equips graduates with strong problem-solving, writing, and communication skills.

Computer engineers design new generations of computers, as well as embedded computing systems, such as those found in smartphones, cars, appliances, computer networks, smart factories, and the Internet of Things. Research in this area often involves complex trade-offs among various optimization criteria, such as speed, cost, power, energy, reliability, and security.

The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Engineering (BS, CYSE) degree is concerned with the development of cyber resilient systems which include the protection of the physical as well as computer and network systems.

The Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Mason grants students the knowledge and tools to oversee and operate large, complex systems.

The computer science department offers a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Applied Computer Science, with concentrations in bioinformatics, geography, computer game design, and software engineering.

The minor provides students with a background in data analysis and statistical methodology. It is intended to complement undergraduate degree programs such as computer science, economics, environmental engineering, geography, mathematics, nursing, psychology, public administration, sociology, and systems engineering.

The BS in Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering combines challenging coursework in physics and mathematics with hands-on practical work in construction, building, and project management.
