About the Program
The statistical science MS trains students in the theory and practice of statistical methodology, particularly as it relates to high-technology applications. Statistical science is regarded as one of the oldest and most successful information technology (IT) subjects. It focuses on the conversion of raw data into information. The program prepares students for careers in research as well as in industry and government, for positions such as statisticians, data scientists, or biostatisticians.
Program Opportunities
Graduates with a master's in statistics from the College of Engineering and Computing are prepared to address the technically rigorous demands of a career as a statistician. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that jobs for statisticians will grow 34 percent from 2016 to 2024, much faster than the growth rate of 7 percent for all occupations. Statisticians are interested in the theory and design of data collection, analysis, and application. There are a variety of fields with a demand for highly-trained statisticians, including biosciences, engineering, education, and psychology.
