Professor Aditya Johri of the Department of Information Sciences and Technology received the Outstanding Research Publication Award (ORPA) from Division I (Education in the Professions) at the recently concluded annual conference of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was awarded the recognition for his recently published volume, the International Handbook of Engineering Education Research (Routledge, 2023).

This international handbook combines 100 expert contributors from more than 20 countries from five continents to author 32 chapters that address the state-of-the-art in engineering education. Spread across six sections, chapters in the handbook review and discuss a wide range of topics pertinent to engineering education including comparative research, engineering ethics, curriculum design, theoretical perspectives, research methods, and the use of technology and computing. Many chapters in the volume take a critical perspective towards developments within engineering education and argue for a more just and inclusive future vision for EER. This is Johri’s second time receiving this award. He earlier received this award for his co-edited volume (with Barbara Olds), the Cambridge Handbook of Engineering Education Research (Cambridge University Press, 2014). The work, partly supported by the National Science Foundation, and introduced at a Special Session of ASEE annual meeting last year in Baltimore.
