Mason CEC SEOR student Darius Jack is often the youngest person landing a plane at one of Virginia’s 65 airports. Having gotten his pilot’s license as a teenager, Darius combines his interests in aviation and engineering when he’s in the cockpit.

Long-time faculty member and associate chair of the Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research, Andrew (Andy) Loerch passed away June 16 after an unexpected and brief battle with cancer. Loerch had just retired on May 24, 2022 after 22 years of service to George Mason University.

Most people with access to a 3D printer find themselves creating small objects or gadgets. But one student group working at the MIX at George Mason University each Friday is driven by a different dream.
“We build, design, test and plan to compete in solar-powered car competitions,” said Michael Riggi, president of Mason’s solar car team, HyperNova Solar. “[We believe] our car, when complete, will be the world’s first and only 3D-printed solar car.”
