The Mason Nation’s strength was undeniable at several hackathons in spring 2023. Computer science, cybersecurity engineering, information technology, and mechanical engineering students won challenges on March 25 at the University of Virginia, on April 7-9 at the University of Maryland, and on April 29-30 at Drexel University.

Foteini Baldimtsi, an assistant professor in Mason’s Department of Computer Science, and James Casey, an associate professor in Mason’s Computer Game Design program, help us understand what the metaverse is, or will be, and how the volatile world of cryptocurrency fits in.

Local student Rosy Sultana overcame challenges to succeed in George Mason University's Honors College. She graduates this May with a degree in Computer Science from the College of Engineering and Computing.

George Mason University cybersecurity and information technology students won challenges in two recent major hackathon events, one on March 25 at the University of Virginia (UVA) and another on April 7-9 at the University of Maryland (UMD).

At a Computing Career Reception, juniors and seniors in CS and IST networked with tech industry representatives from companies such as Appian, Brillient, and Verisign.

During winter break, fifty-three George Mason students participated in three-week micro-internships via Break Through Tech DC’s Sprinternship program. 

Missy Cummings, a George Mason University mechanical engineering professor, calls herself a “tech futurist,” whose job is to “make tech work. It’s not to stop tech, it’s to help it get better.”

Vo will complete a three-week long micro-internship at a local tech company as part of Break Through Tech Mason's 2023 Sprinternship program. "As a third-year student, I want to gain as much experience in technology as possible before graduating and entering the workforce," she says.
