In the recently announced U.S. News & World Report rankings, the College of Engineering and Computing’s (CEC) online master’s programs rose, indicating the strength of its academic excellence, innovative curriculum, and commitment to preparing the tech workforce for leadership roles in engineering and computing.

The CEC ranked as a top 100 engineering school among public institutions, saw one of its newest programs make a strong debut. The master’s in industrial engineering is best in Virginia and 10th nationally.

“We are seeing increasing demand for systems engineers at all levels. As the world becomes more connected, many of the challenges become systems problems, so the demand will keep growing,” said Department Chair and Professor John Shortle. “Our faculty are leaders in the discipline, for example in areas at the intersection of systems engineering and artificial intelligence and keep the curriculum at the front of the field. We are delighted to receive the acknowledgment in the new rankings.”

The new master’s in IT for veterans' programs also made a strong first impression, ranking 21st nationally and 13th among public universities.

Now in its 40th year, the CEC’s interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research prepares CEC students for the rapidly evolving technology ecosystem. Hands-on training and meaningful internships give CEC graduates unmatched technical expertise and provide top-tier industry connections.
