The College of Engineering and Computing’s (CEC) online master’s programs have climbed in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, a testament to the college’s academic excellence, forward-thinking curriculum, and strong commitment to developing future leaders in engineering and computing.
CEC is now ranked among the top 100 public engineering schools in the nation. Notably, the online master's in industrial engineering, the top-ranked in Virginia, is now ranked 10th nationally.
“We are seeing increasing demand for systems engineers at all levels. As the world becomes more connected, many of the challenges become systems problems, so the demand will keep growing,” said Department Chair and Professor John Shortle. “Our faculty are leaders in the discipline, for example in areas at the intersection of systems engineering and artificial intelligence and keep the curriculum at the front of the field. We are delighted to receive the acknowledgment in the new rankings.”
The new master’s in IT for veterans' programs also made a strong first impression, ranking 21st nationally and 13th among public universities.
Now in its 40th year, the CEC’s interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research prepares CEC students for the rapidly evolving technology ecosystem. Hands-on training and meaningful internships give CEC graduates unmatched technical expertise and provide top-tier industry connections.
