Biography
Tugba (Tuba) Karabiyik is an assistant professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research at George Mason University. Her research focuses on the integration of systems thinking, sustainability, and decision-making in complex sociotechnical systems. She specializes in agent-based modeling, game theory, mathematical modeling, and learning analytics to explore challenges in engineering design, teamwork dynamics, and global development. Karabiyik has published extensively in high-impact journals and conferences, with work spanning system-of-systems design, engineering education, and the use of AI in judgment and decision processes.
Before joining George Mason, she served as a lecturer and academic lead in systems engineering at Purdue University, where she taught a range of undergraduate and graduate systems courses, mentored student research, and led curricular innovation around global challenges and complex systems. Her interdisciplinary and student-centered approach has earned her multiple awards, including best paper and poster recognitions. Karabiyik is also an active member of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and contributes to initiatives advancing technical leadership and educational excellence.
