Biography

Gail Therrien's motto is “Inspiring Leaders in Technology and Engineering.” Her goal is for her students to leave George Mason with the experience to be active members of any Information Technology team. In the Capstone Program, she focuses on 1) each student toning their technical skills so they can be technical contributors and 2) each student finding their voice and feeling confident to share their thoughts on research, evaluation, design, and building technical solutions. 3) helping students become “big picture viewers” by looking at a system as a part of a bigger system, and 4) building students’ professional skills and ability to work collaboratively that will aid them in being successful team members in a professional setting.

Therrien's proudest professional accomplishments are: 1) Woodie Flowers recipient 2) Lifetime Woman in Technology Award, and 3) numerous teaching awards.  Additionally, Therrien focuses on curriculum development and Information Technology educational programs. She was the first to teach an IT dual enrollment course and design a program to allow for an AS-IT degree to be earned in high school.
