Faculty Engagement

Inclusive Curriculum and Teaching Excellence

OSSE in collaboration with the University's Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning, administers the Inclusive Curriculum and Teaching Excellence Program. This program, which faculty can register for, happens once a semester (October and February) and provides STEM faculty with targeted workshops, resources, and individual consultations to enhance inclusive teaching practices.

Programming also supports faculty and departments in meeting their Inclusive Excellence Plan goals and encourages participation in professional development. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for departments to achieve Stearns' Inclusive Teaching Professional Development Credential at the Bronze and Silver levels, recognizing their commitment to inclusive education.

Broader Impacts and Grant Support

OSSE offers faculty workshops focused on enhancing Broader Impacts efforts in research and proposals, with a special emphasis on best practices for Broadening Participation in STEM. Held once each semester in November and March, these workshops provide valuable insights into broadening participation models and campus resources. Faculty can also sign up for small group or one-on-one grant consultations to receive personalized, in-depth guidance on integrating these practices into their research endeavors.

Future Faculty InSPIRE Series

The InSPIRE series is an initiative designed to seek early career academics (Senior PhD students, post-docs, and 1–3-year Assistant Professors) who are interested in Tenured or Teaching Faculty roles within George Mason University’s College of Engineering and Computing.

The series aims to promote individuals focusing on new, cutting-edge, and innovative research or teaching methods with implications for socially conscious engineering and/or technology. This could be through the lens of inclusion, belonging, social justice, etc.

Chosen speakers receive a $2000 stipend honorarium (inclusive of travel).

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please email cecosse@gmu.edu  with any questions or for details on application submissions.
