Biography
Andrzej Manitius joined George Mason University in September 1988 as a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Manitius' research interests include mathematical aspects of control theory, including control of distributed parameter and delay systems, optimal control, optimization, and numerical and computational methods in dynamical systems and control systems. He has published over 70 papers in his fields of interest and held various editorial positions with several professional journals. In 1991 he received the American Mathematical Society's Citation for Public Service related to his earlier work at the NSF. Prior to coming to Mason, Manitius served as Program Director for Applied Mathematics and Deputy Director, of the Division of Mathematical Sciences at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., after having served academic and research appointments at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Montreal, and the University of Minnesota.
